I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Yesterday was a really successful day for PC Wake from Dulwich Wood SNT and PC Spencer-Avison from Dulwich Village SNT.
PC Wake firstly arrested a male who lives on and commits offences within the ward for breach of bail. He was taken into custody promptly.
Following this, both officers conducted proactive patrols on the ward in plain clothes to remain undetected and identify suspects linked to recent thefts and motor vehicle crime. Whilst on Croxted Road, they identified a prolific parcel theft offender in the act. The female had just stolen a parcel worth £165 and was attempting to conceal the evidence when she walked directly into the plain clothes officers.
PC Wake detained and searched the suspect, locating the stolen parcel in her possession. PC Spencer-Avison then arrested her for the offence. While PC Spencer-Avison remained with the victim to take a statement, PC Wake transported the suspect to custody for booking in.
Further enquiries revealed that the same individual was already named as a suspect in an ongoing investigation into a separate parcel theft on Croxted Road in April, where a parcel worth £20.00 had been stolen. As a result, once in custody, she was further arrested for this offence. After a long shift, finishing well beyond their scheduled time, both officers remained on duty to ensure the job was completed and the desired outcome achieved.
The offender has now been charged with two counts of theft and will be appearing in court next month.
A very positive result for the wards, with two prolific offenders arrested and taken into custody in one day. A 15-hour shift well worth it!
We would also ask residents to please report anything and everything. We are working hard to tackle all types of crime, and having a full picture helps us understand the extent of issues in the area and identify those responsible.
Thank you!
